We’re expected to see no fewer than three new Apple Watches this year, which will be released in five different versions. The Apple Watch SE (third generation), Apple Watch Series 10 (or Apple Watch X) and the Apple Watch Ultra 3 are said to be released in 2024. The tenth generation of the smartwatch is expected to see major changes. We’ve listed all the rumors for you!

1. Apple Watch Series 10

Apple is celebrating an anniversary, because in 2024 it will be ten years since the Apple Watch was announced. Expectations are therefore high, with a likely redesign for the smartwatch. According to rumors, the device will get a larger screen: you will soon be able to choose between a 45 or 49 millimeter housing. The edges around the larger display will also be thinner, creating more space for the screen.

The tenth-generation Apple Watch will be powered by the S10 chip, which is expected to support a number of new Apple Intelligence features. These features are currently only available on the iPhone, iPad and Mac, but are reportedly coming to the Apple Watch. In addition, the Apple Watch will get a blood pressure monitor and a health feature to detect sleep apnea in 2024.

2. Apple Watch SE 2024

Do you prefer a smaller smartwatch on your wrist? Then you are spoiled for choice with the Apple Watch SE 2024. With the cheaper smartwatch, you can choose between a 41 or 45 millimeter casing, as is now the case with the Apple Watch Series 9. The screen will be slightly larger, because the Apple Watch SE adopts the design of the Apple Watch Series 7. This means that the screen edges are thinner and there is slightly more space for the display.

According to recent rumors, the Apple Watch SE 2024 will get a modified casing, as the aluminum is said to be replaced by plastic. Apple is probably planning this to further reduce the price of the smartwatch. This also happened previously with the iPhone 5C, which then appeared in a range of striking colors. We can possibly expect this with the Apple Watch SE as well.

3. Apple Watch Ultra 3

Apple’s most advanced smartwatch will be released in its third generation in 2024. The Apple Watch Ultra received a minor update in 2023 and no major changes are expected again this year. The Apple Watch Ultra 3 will at least get a number of adjustments under the hood, with the new S10 chip and probably support for Apple Intelligence.

For a long time, there were rumors that the screen of the Apple Watch Ultra would be larger in 2024 with a housing of 52 millimeters. With the current Apple Watch Ultra, that is still 49 millimeters, but it seems that Apple has postponed the plans for a larger display. According to the usually reliable Apple expert, we will therefore not see any changes in the design of the Apple Watch Ultra 3 this year.

Release of the Apple Watch in 2024

So we’ll see a total of five different versions of the Apple Watch in 2024. We won’t have to wait much longer for the new smartwatches, because Apple will probably announce them in September. That’s also the month that the iPhone 16 series will be released and new software such as iOS 18 and watchOS 11 will be released. Apple usually presents the new iPhone and Apple Watch on a Monday or Tuesday in early September.

The presentation is expected to take place this year Monday 9 or Tuesday 10 September falls. In recent years, the release of the new Apple Watch followed shortly after the presentation, often the smartwatch is in stores within a week.
