Mark Gurman had already indicated before the WWDC of 2022 that the Apple Watch would get a better power saving mode. Only during the WWDC we heard nothing more about this. Now the Apple expert has an update and says that the new feature will only be available for the Apple Watch Series 8.

Energy Saving Mode

The better power saving mode of the Apple Watch Series 8 is comparable to the power saving mode that you find on the iPhone (‘Settings > Battery > Power saving mode’). If you enable this option, background activities (such as retrieving e-mail) will be temporarily reduced, until the iPhone is sufficiently charged again.

So this is different from the current power saving mode on the Apple Watch. With the saving mode, all functions are completely switched off and you can only read the time. By giving the Apple Watch Series 8 a better power saving mode, you can still use the other functions of the smartwatch.

On the one hand, it is strange that Apple is rumored to only release the function on the Apple Watch Series 8. Because it was recently announced that the Apple Watch Series 8 will receive the same chip as its predecessors. It remains to be seen whether the function will only appear on the latest smartwatch.
