Evidence has been found that Apple is working on a completely new operating system. But for what exactly?
Apple is working on a new operating system
Some interesting things were found in the first beta of tvOS 17.4. For example, indications have been found that Apple is working in the background on a new operating system called ‘homeOS’.
Some indications of homeOS were already found in June 2021. At the time, Apple had two vacancies online that mentioned something about homeOS. But when it was picked up by the media, Apple quickly removed the term. Now with the beta of tvOS 17.4, it is the first time that we hear something about Apple’s new homeOS operating system.
It is not known exactly what Apple has planned. But rumors suggest it will be some sort of combination of tvOS and the software used by the HomePod. The HomePod that appeared in 2018 ran on a variant of iOS 11. But when version 3.14 of the HomePod software was released, they switched to tvOS.
There are regular rumors that Apple is planning much more with smart homes in the future. For example, rumors say that the next version of the HomePod will become a kind of smart home hub. Amazon led the way with the Echo Show and Google followed with the Nest Hub. Only Apple has nothing in this area yet.
That Apple is working on it has already been seen in a leaked photo. It showed a prototype of the HomePod with a real display on the top. The current model only contains colored LEDs.
If the HomePod becomes a smart home hub, a combination of tvOS and the HomePod software could become an excellent new operating system for Apple. In any case, we are curious what Apple is planning.
