Apple will release a new version of the Apple TV in the second half of 2022. That’s what a famous person claims. In addition, the media player may have a lower price tag than the current model.
Cheaper Apple TV on the way in 2022
According to the generally reliable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo Apple will release a new Apple TV later this year. The media player was last updated in 2021 and then received, among other things, a faster A12 chip. Apple also designed a new remote control, the Siri Remote, which is a lot nicer to use than the old model.
It is not yet known which new features the Apple TV 2022 will receive. Kuo does suggest that the device will be priced lower than the current version. The Apple TV 4K (2021) costs at least 199 euros. For that you get a meager 32GB of storage space. If you want 64GB of storage, you pay 219 euros.
If the new Apple TV does indeed get cheaper, perhaps we shouldn’t expect any new features at all. Instead, it could be the replacement for the current one Apple TV HD, which supports a maximum resolution of 1080p. We suspect that the successor can then display 4K material, but is less suitable for playing games than the more expensive variant.

Is Apple going to compete with alternatives?
Kuo suggests in his tweet that the Apple TV 2022 will close the gap with the competition. Then it’s all about the price. There are many cheaper alternatives to the Apple TV available, such as the Google Chromecast with Google TV and the Xiaomi TV Stick 4K†You can get both of these for around 70 euros.
These ‘dongles’ have less powerful hardware than the Apple TV 4K. Yet they are perfectly suitable for displaying video services such as Netflix and Disney Plus in high quality on your television. Apple may come out with a stripped-down media player that does the same thing, but works better with your other Apple devices.
