Apple is releasing a bunch of new products next week, including the AirPods SE. Here’s what we know about the cheaper new AirPods!
Apple launches cheaper earphones
Next Monday, Apple will host the event of 2024. At the ‘It’s Glowtime‘ event, Apple will present this year’s new iPhones, Apple Watches and iPads. In addition, the fourth generation of AirPods will be released, which will probably be released in two versions. According to rumors, Apple is working on a cheaper version of the earphones, with a possible name of the AirPods SE.
The AirPods 4 and AirPods SE reportedly look identical. The design is a combination of the AirPods 3 and the AirPods Pro. The earbuds have short stems, but lack the silicone tips of the Pro models. The big difference between the two new AirPods of 2024 can be seen in the functions and in the price. The AirPods 4 will not only be more advanced, but also a lot more expensive.
AirPods SE Features
Previous rumors predict that the AirPods 4 will get noise cancellation for the first time, a feature that was previously exclusive to the AirPods Pro. The charging case will be equipped with MagSafe and will get improved speakers for ‘Find My’. The cheaper AirPods will have to do without these features, in order to keep the price of the earbuds as low as possible. It is therefore likely that Apple will sell the new earbuds as the AirPods SE, like we previously saw with the Apple Watch SE.
The AirPods SE and AirPods 4 are expected to replace the current AirPods. Apple still sells the AirPods 2 and AirPods 3. The second generation costs 149 euros, the third generation costs 209 euros. There is a good chance that Apple will adopt these prices for the new generation of earphones. In that case, you will pay 149 euros for the AirPods SE and 209 euros for the AirPods 4.
Release of the new AirPods
The AirPods SE will likely feature a new design and improved sound quality compared to the AirPods 2. The earbuds will also serve as an alternative for users who find the silicone eartips of the AirPods Pro uncomfortable. If you don’t want eartips, but still want noise cancellation, you can get the AirPods 4 starting next week.
Apple announces both the AirPods 4 and AirPods SE during the iPhone 16 event on Monday September 9 at 7:00 PM. The earbuds will probably go on pre-sale that same evening.
