WhatsApp stops on iPhones

Is your iPhone not running on the latest software version yet? In that case it is probably time to update, because WhatsApp no longer works with an outdated version of iOS. Meta, the parent company behind WhatsApp, previously announced that the messaging service loses support on iPhones that are still running on iOS 15.1. That would originally happen on May 5, but this date was postponed to 1 June.

By postponing the date, users were given longer to update their iPhone or to get a new device. WhatsApp has not been working on the iPhone 5S, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus since 1 June. These iPhones no longer have support for the latest software versions, because they are still running on iOS 12.5.7. WhatsApp only works with iOS 15.1 or newer, so that the messaging service is no longer available on these popular iPhones.

For users with an iPhone 6s or newer, it is important to update to the latest software version. Those devices do have support for iOS 15.1 or newer.

WhatsApp did not work on older iPhones for a long time, but now the iPhone 5S, iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus are added. It is more common that applications no longer work on outdated devices.
