BMW Group sets sales record despite crisis

Despite the continued sales dip as a result of the corona crisis, the BMW Group has managed to set a sales record. In the second half of 2020, it sold more cars than ever before.

Despite the contraction in sales due to the lockdowns, the second half of 2020 was a record period. BMW sold more cars from July to the end of 2020 than ever in that period, the German car manufacturer reports. In the second half of the year, the BMW Group sold a total of 1.36 million cars. So it concerns all brands of the concern together, including Mini and Rolls-Royce.

The figures are striking, because the car market was still clearly affected by the corona pandemic in the first half of the year. Many factories were even temporarily closed. Sales have, at least at BMW, recovered well from the blow of the first lockdown.

Over the whole of 2020, the group’s sales were nevertheless 8.4 percent lower than in 2019. BMW as a brand sold around 2.03 million cars in 2020, 7.1 percent less than in 2019. Mini had 292,582 copies a bigger dip: 15.8 percent went off. Rolls-Royce had a tough time, which sold no less than 26.4 percent fewer cars last year with 3,756 units than in 2019.
