For the first time in the 3 Series, BMW applies the M label to a diesel version. With a capacity of 340 hp and a torque of 700 Nm, the performance is impressive enough for that.

BMW introduces the M340d xDrive, as a Sedan and as a Touring. The fast diesel version can carry the M label, thanks to the capacity of 340 hp and the torque of 700 Nm. The six-cylinder diesel engine is equipped with a 48 Volt mild hybrid system to reduce consumption and CO2 emissions. For example, the diesel engine automatically switches off below 15 km / h when braking or rolling out. BMW gives a consumption at 5.3 l / 100 km (1 at 18.8).

Low consumption is nice, but the M340d is of course mainly about the sporting performance. The famous sprint from 0 to 100 km / h covers the Sedan in 4.6 seconds, the Touring needs 0.2 counts longer. As usual, the top speed is adjusted to 250 km / h.

The M340d has been technically upgraded by BMW’s M department. The technicians have taken care of the brakes, the suspension, the automatic transmission, the steering and the exhaust. The fast diesel version also has an M sport differential. The external embellishments, both on the outside and in the interior, must not remain unmentioned.

The M340d is coming to the Netherlands in April. The prices are not yet known.
