In addition to the iPad Air and iPad Pro, Apple also sells the ‘normal’ iPad. This one will get a bigger screen in 2023, if the rumors are correct.
iPad with 11-inch screen coming in 2023
Apple’s budget iPad has only been getting internal upgrades for years now. The tablet has about the same design as the very first iPad Air from 2013, with a slightly larger 10.2 inch screen. The device is the only recent iPad that still has the classic home button with a Touch ID fingerprint scanner. The next entry-level iPad will get, according to the reliable Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) a larger 11 inch screen. That could affect the rest of the design.
Apple already offers two tablets with 11-inch screens. These are the iPad Air 2022 – with a 10.9-inch screen, but the difference is nil – and the smaller version of the iPad Pro. Both tablets have a symmetrical, thin screen bezel design. The home button is gone and you protect both tablets. The iPad mini also has a similar design – but with a smaller screen.
It could just be that Apple wants to refresh the regular iPad. In this way, the tablet is more in line with its more expensive brothers and it is also better able to compete with similar tablets from competitor Samsung. However, it is also possible that Apple only makes the existing design slightly larger. The device may have the same design as the iPad Air 2019, with thinner bezels on the side but still a home button.
Does this mean the end of the smaller Pro model?
The arrival of an 11-inch iPad would ensure that Apple offers three different 11-inch tablets. That’s a bit much – and so there is a chance that the manufacturer will no longer make a new 11-inch iPad Pro. In our opinion an excellent choice. After all, the 11-inch iPad Pro only distinguishes itself with its ProMotion screen and dual camera on the back. We don’t know anyone who still takes pictures with an iPad, because practically everyone now has a smartphone in their pocket.
In 2022 it is actually a bit crazy to still choose the 11-inch iPad Pro. The iPad Air is cheaper, comes in more colors and shares almost all of its specs with its more expensive brother – including the blazing-fast M1 chip. Of course we miss the ProMotion screen, but with a bit of luck the next generation iPad Air will have it too.
