The control panel is handy for many things, but also ensures a safety risk. Therefore, call on this function on your iPhone.
Switch this function on your iPhone
You can use the control panel, among other things, to quickly switch on the flashlight, to open the camera, you Apple TV to operate or make a screen recording. But also for making fast notes and much more, depending on what you have added to the control panel. It is especially useful because you don’t even have to unlock your iPhone or iPad as standard to use it.
But it is exactly that what a potential safety risk is. Because if you can open the control panel without unlocking your iPhone or iPad, then everyone can. With all the possible consequences, because they then have access to all the controllers that you have added to the control panel.

This is how you prevent it
Fortunately, you don’t have to worry about this, because there is a function on your iPhone with which you can refuse access to the control panel from the access screen. You can find this function here:
- Open the app settings and scroll down a bit;
- Tap ‘Face ID and access code’;
- Enter your access code;
- Turn off the switch behind ‘Control panel’.
It is of course the art of finding the right balance between convenience and safety. That’s a personal thing. But disabling the possibility to open the control panel from the access screen is nowadays no longer a problem for anyone. Practically all iPhones nowadays have Face ID. Unlocking is therefore just as easy and is just as fast as picking up your iPhone. In practice you will not notice virtually no difference, but your iPhone is a lot safer due to this function.
