Celebrate Mario Day on your iPhone with Google Maps and Mario Run discount

In honor of Mario Day, Google has added a fun Easter egg to Google Maps. During rides you will be accompanied by none other than Mario. Mario’s iPhone game is also on sale.

Google Maps Mario: Hit the road with iconic game character

March 10 is Mario’s day. In this context, Google and Nintendo have joined forces and have come up with a nice promotion. Until March 17, you can choose to no longer show the default location arrow on the map, but Mario. He drives along in his red car in the direction of the arrow.

Here’s how to make sure Mario is driving with you in Google Maps:

  1. Make sure you get the latest version of Google Maps downloaded from the App Store;
  2. Open the app and tap the yellow exclamation mark at the bottom right;
  3. Indicate that it is ‘Mario Time’;
  4. Plan a route, as you normally would;
  5. Tada: You are now shown on the map by Mario.

Note that the feature doesn’t seem to work for everyone yet, even though they have the latest Google Maps version. Google says it will roll out the feature gradually.

Discount on Super Mario Run

To make International Mario Day even more festive, you will receive a 50 percent discount on the purchase of Super Mario Run until March 25. The first four levels of the game are free to play. For the full experience you normally have to put 10.99 euros on the table. Currently this will cost you only 5.49 euros. This gives you access to more than 30 different levels. You can unlock these extra levels within the game with an in-app purchase.
