Gray or blue check marks next to your WhatsApp message? See at a glance whether the message has been sent, delivered and read.
WhatsApp check marks
You have undoubtedly seen them: the check marks in WhatsApp. All text messages, photos, audio recordings, and videos you send will have a gray check mark or two gray or blue check marks. These check marks indicate the status of the message. They all have a different meaning.
A check mark
A gray check in WhatsApp means that a message has been sent, but that it has not (yet) been delivered to the other person’s phone. The app does not arrive, for example, because the receiver’s phone is switched off or because the internet does not work for a while.
Two gray check marks
Are there two gray check marks next to the sent message? The app has been delivered to the phone, but the recipient has not yet read or opened it. In group conversations, two gray ticks only appear when each group member has received the message.
Blue check marks
If the check marks turn blue, then the recipient has read the message, listened to the sound recording or opened the photo/video. In group conversations, you’ll see this when everyone in the group has opened the message. It’s not just you who see blue checks: others see when you’ve opened or read something. Annoying? Then turn off the read receipts. This does mean that you will no longer see them.
