Weather forecasts with AI are proving to be much more accurate and are therefore increasingly being used. You can already try out a few!
Weather forecasting with AI
Artificial intelligence (AI) has recently entered the world of weather forecasting. An AI model is trained with about forty years of historical weather data. Then, based on the current state of the atmosphere, that AI model estimates what the atmosphere will look like a few hours later. The results so far have not only been accurate but also lightning fast.
For example, last month Microsoft launched the Aurora AI-model and Google came up with GraphCast last year. Not all services are available to everyone yet, but you can already try out weather forecasts with AI yourself. We list a few options for you.
Meteum Weather
Meteum provides accurate weather forecasts, warnings and weather radar information in real time. Powered by AI technology, Meteum processes data from thousands of measuring instruments, both on Earth and in space. In addition, users can help make the forecasts even more accurate.
You can use Meteum for free via the app or the website, provided you don’t mind that everything is in English. A Dutch version is not (yet) available.

Rainbow Weather
With Rainbow Weather, powered by IA technology, you will never be caught out by rain again, because you are always aware of weather changes in your location. Whether you are going for a run, at the zoo with your kids, or walking your dog, Rainbow Weather helps you plan your activities and avoid getting wet. Rainbow Weather also uses AI in particular to process the huge amounts of data quickly and efficiently.
Rainbow Weather is in Dutch, but unfortunately you can only try the app for free for three days. After that you pay 19.90 euros for a year, or a one-time 99.99 euros.

Atmo AI
Atmo AI is an AI-driven weather forecasting system that provides highly accurate forecasts for governments, military, businesses and citizens worldwide. By using advanced deep learning techniques in combination with classic weather forecasting, Atmo AI is highly accurate in its predictions.
Atmo AI collects real-time data about the Earth’s weather from most weather satellites, ground stations and radars. The AI models use this data to continuously refine the forecasts and improve the forecasting power. Atmo AI does not have an app and can therefore only be used in the browser.

Google GraphCast
GraphCast is now the most accurate 10-day global weather forecasting system in the world, able to predict extreme weather events further into the future than previously possible. As weather patterns evolve in a changing climate, GraphCast will evolve and improve as higher quality data becomes available.
To make AI-powered weather forecasting more accessible, Google has released the model’s code opened up. So you can experiment with GraphCast, but it is not very user-friendly yet. Because the service is so accurate, we did not want to deprive you of this option. The ECMWF (European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts) is already experimenting with 10-day forecasts from GraphCast.

Weather forecasting with AI in the future
Weather forecasting with AI has revolutionized weather forecasting, especially since it is now possible to process and interpret large amounts of data quickly and accurately. Advances in AI are happening at a rapid pace, so we can certainly expect even more improvements in weather forecasting in the future.
