The new Chevrolet Corvette will not only distinguish itself from its predecessors by the location of its power source. For the first time in Corvette history, the American icon is available with a plug-in hybrid powertrain!
In mid-last year, Chevrolet introduced the current generation of the Corvette, the ‘C8’, to the world. General Motors finally gave the ‘Fat fanatics what had been asked for for years. The powerful eight-cylinder got a place in the new muscle behind the front seats instead of in the nose, making the current Corvette the first ‘Vette with mid-engine. There seem to be more ‘first times’ for the C8. The Chevy is also available with a plug-in hybrid powertrain!
According to our sources, this set of spy plates shows the forthcoming PHEV version of the Corvette. The ‘Vette has a striking bump technique on the back, a device through which the exhaust pipes and therefore also the gases are passed through to measure the exact emissions. On the right front screen we see orange cabling and on the left on the side we see a red button, a so-called ‘kill switch’ with which the electrical part of the drivetrain can be switched off at the push of a button in problem situations.
Further details about the drivetrain are not yet known. It is therefore not clear whether Chevrolet will bring a more powerful version of the regular model with this plug-in hybrid variant of the Corvette or whether it is a copy without a V8, but with a V6 that is more focused on efficiency. In any case, there will be an extra potent electrified Corvette, but it is unknown whether this is. The regular Corvette basically squeezes out 495 hp and 637 Nm from its 6.2 V8. This means that the American, which is always equipped with an automatic transmission with eight gears and a double clutch, shoots in ‘less than 3 counts’ to a speed of 100 km / h.
