Chevrolet Corvette Z06: new temporary topper

Lovers of needlessly fat American horsepower, pay attention! Chevrolet shows the first photo of an uncamouflaged Corvette Z06, the provisional sub-topper of the Corvette Stingray that only has to give up its crown with the arrival of a new ZR1.

October 26 is the day Chevrolet presents the new Z06 version of the current Corvette Stingray. Given the previous Corvette generations, it is of course no surprise that a Z06 was on the way. In addition, the new Corvette Z06 has appeared several times in camouflage, but today we can show you the superlative of the Corvette Z06 without stickers. At least, from one angle.

That produces a surprising result. To a lesser extent than the previous Corvette Z06, the new Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is an outwardly enhanced version of the regular Corvette. Extra black accents are missing and the bumper work is not noticeably more exuberant than that of the regular Corvette. In addition, the large rear spoiler that appeared on earlier wrapped Z06s, and even showed up in an image released by Chevrolet itself, is missing from the silver-grey Corvette Z06 in this photo. So don’t be surprised if Chevrolet has put that rear spoiler in an option package. It is visible, however, that the black plastic trim near the air intakes on the flanks further dive into the body and that the car gets a slightly modified front bumper and special light metal.

Of course, the Z06 gets more power compared to the regular ‘Vette. In its current form, the Corvette has a 497 hp naturally aspirated 6.2 V8. The Z06 may kick it up to about 600 hp. Whether Chevrolet will supercharge the 6.2 V8 for the Z06 or whether it will pull the 5.5 V8 from the race version C8.R, is not yet entirely clear. At a later stage, Chevrolet will undoubtedly come up with an even more intense variant of the Corvette, the ZR1.
