With a new Chevrolet Tahoe in showrooms, it is also time for the police to switch to the new version of the American giant. This is how the new Tahoe looks like a crook catcher.
At the end of last year, Chevrolet presented the new Tahoe and Suburban all at once. The smaller Tahoe, with a length of 5.35 meters and a wheelbase of 3 meters, still a wattle of an SUV, has also been used by the American police for many years. This is the new Tahoe for the long arm of the law.
The police are given two different versions. The Tahoe Police Pursuit Vehicle (PPV) is designed to achieve higher speeds with added comfort for everyday use. The Special Service Verhicle (SSV) is more focused on the off-road capabilities of the SUV and, due to the standard 4WD and the Max Trailering package, can better handle a trailer up to 3,700 kg. In both cases, the 5.3-liter V8 with 330 hp provides the SUV with its power. The PPV version borrows only some parts from the Camaro ZL1 LT4 engine, such as the valve covers, for a sportier setup.
A collaboration with tire manufacturer Bridgestone has ensured that the Tahoe gets special 20-inch wheels that are less susceptible to wear. The Tahoe’s also get an improved braking system, are slightly lower on the road and the limiter is adjusted to 224 km / h. The new Tahoe will be put into service by the US police later this year.
