Clear history in Windows

activity history-clear

Leave no trace of your activities on a shared Windows computer. Clear the history of your activities.

If you share a computer with several people, you often want some privacy. Other users do not need to know what you have done on the PC. A solution for this is the use of multiple accounts on the PC. This allows each user to log in separately. But if you can’t or don’t want to, there is another way to provide some privacy. Namely by clearing the activity history.

The activity history is a collection of information about using a PC with Windows. This includes, for example, which websites you have visited or which apps have been used. If you only use a computer for yourself or with your partner, it will make little difference whether Windows saves this information. But if visitors or other people also want to use the PC, it is nice if there is more privacy.

Within the Windows settings, saving the activity history is turned on by default. Turn this feature off and clear the history on the PC.

  • Click the Start button.
  • click on Institutions (the gear icon).
  • In Windows 10, click Privacy. In Windows 11, click Privacy & Security.
  • click on Activity history.
  • Is there a check mark in front of it Save my activity history on this device? Click on it to stop saving the history. The checkmark is now gone.
  • Scroll down a bit and click on ‘Clear activity history’ To clear > OK.
  • Close the Settings via the cross at the top right of the window.

History is cleared and Windows no longer saves new activities.
