Customize the appearance of notifications on the iPhone Lock screen

On an iPhone and iPad, the notifications are placed at the bottom of the lock screen, so that they do not cause distraction and your chosen background is easier to see. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to view the notification overview and notification center.

You can also adjust the display of notifications; you can choose to display them as a quantity, stack or just as a list on the lock screen. We explain how you can adjust this and what the differences are.

Customize notification display

  • Open Settings on your iPhone
  • Navigate to ‘Notifications’
  • Select the desired view under ‘Show as’

If you choose ‘Number‘ then you will no longer see notifications on the lock screen, but only a number at the bottom of the screen. This indicates how many unread notifications you have left.

Do you choose ‘Pile‘ then the notifications are stacked on top of each other and take up less space on the screen. By swiping up the notifications you can see them all.

Finally, you can choose ‘List‘ then all notifications are shown one below the other on the lock screen.
