CyberTaskTimer – Working diligently?

Automate

This is probably recognizable: you are sitting behind your PC for a whole day and ultimately you have delivered less work than you had hoped. Were you just slow or did you have too many temptations from games, emails or social media? CyberTaskTimer accurately registers your application usage and relentlessly hangs a timer on it. How diligent have you been?

CyberTaskTimer

During a (work) day you often open and close unconscious programs on your PC, which may not always be good for your productivity. CyberTaskTimer nestles in the Windows system tray, logs the activities of all applications from there and pours them into clear statistics. Handy for measuring your own productivity, but perhaps also for checking questionable actions of fellow users.

Logs

When you have installed and started CyberTaskTimer, you will hardly notice it, except for an icon in the Windows system tray. With a double click you open the corresponding program window. In addition to a series of small buttons, it contains exactly two tabs. At first, called Application log, you will find a chronological overview of the applications used, with the most recent at the bottom. You not only see the starting time, but also the exact duration (as long as the program window in question was in the foreground) and possibly the name of the document that you had opened with that application. You can save this log file at any time in a simple text file.

Statistics

If you prefer to view your activities at a glance, the tab is better Statistics to open. Here all sessions of the same application are bundled and plotted in a colorful graph. A handful of filters are also available: today, yesterday, week, month and year, so that you can quickly zoom in on a specific period. A search function is also available, so that you can search for specific terms. Just as with the logs, you can also store this statistical information in a file.

Extra options

In the settings window an exclusion option is available with which you can keep certain applications out of registration. Unfortunately, this option did not work in this (free) version. It is, however, possible to pause the overall registration by CyberTaskTimer at any time. Locking or hiding the tool from other users is not possible.

Conclusion

CyberTaskTimer is a very simple tool to find out exactly how much time you (or others?) spend on various applications. In addition to a chronological overview with all sessions, you also get a (graphical) overview in which the sessions of the same applications are bundled. Nothing more, nothing less.
