75 years of liberation(1)

Keep up to date with the news from the Second World War with the NOS site ’75 years of liberation’. And follow the liberation of the Netherlands from day to day.

In 2019 and 2020 we commemorate the end of the Second World War, 75 years ago. The NOS developed a site especially for this occasion on which the news from that time can be followed daily, as if it were happening today.

The site has a rich archive of photos and films, for example about the battle of Aachen. The German city that after weeks of fighting came into the hands of the Allies on October 21, 1944. The NOS uses sources that were not yet available at the time, such as later eyewitnesses, censored news, released archives or military-strategic information.

On the site, you can read about 46 resistance fighters who were liberated from a Rotterdam prison on October 24, 1944. Or scroll through fascinating stories about naval ships from Curaçao that come to Europe to be deployed in the fight against Nazi Germany.
