Declare care bills via app

You can also claim medical expenses with your smartphone. How does that work for the major insurers?

Nowadays every health insurer has an app. If a care bill falls on the mat, take a picture of it and declare the costs via the app. But how exactly does that work for the major Dutch companies? Is yours not there? Then visit the insurer’s website.

When using the app for the first time, it must be linked to your DigiD. You also set a five-digit PIN as security. After that, the app is ready to use. Declaration goes like this:

  • Start the app and log in as usual.
  • Tap on Declare a bill.
  • Tap the plus sign.
  • Take a picture.
  • If the note consists of several pages, take a photo of each page.
  • Tap the plus sign again and take a photo.
  • Once all pages have been processed, continue.
  • Tap on Further.
  • Tap on Send.
  • The declaration has been sent.

To use the app, log in once with DigiD. You also set a security. After that, the app is ready for further use. Submit a claim as follows:

  • Start the app and log in as usual.
  • Tap on Submit claim.
  • By default, the option is Note(s) from the Netherlands active. Declaring a foreign bill can be done by activating the option Bill(s) from abroad.
  • Tap on add note.
  • Take the picture.
  • If the note consists of several pages, take a photo of each page.
  • Keep tapping the plus sign and take a new photo.
  • Once all pages have been processed, continue.
  • If your account number has not been entered, please fill it in.
  • Tap on Submit.
  • The declaration has been sent.

Download the app:

Logging in once with DigiD is required to use the app. After that, you only need to set a security and the app is ready for further use. How to submit a claim:

  • Start the app and log in as usual.
  • Tap on Submit claim.
  • By default, the option is Note(s) from the Netherlands active. Declaring a foreign bill can be done by activating the option Bill(s) from abroad.

The app needs a one-time login with DigiD to be able to use it. After that, setting a security is necessary to make the app ready for use. Then you declare it like this:

  • Start the app and log in as usual.
  • Tap on Declaration.
  • Tap on Photo by note.
  • Take the picture.
  • Tap on Finished or check photo.
  • Tap on Send declaration. The declaration has been sent.

Download the app:

Ohra’s app can be used immediately. Log in with your Ohra account, or with your relationship number and date of birth.

  • Launch the app.
  • Tap on Health insurance.
  • Tap on declare.
  • If necessary, tap Agree, and then on Continue.
  • Tap on Submit bill.
  • Tap on Add an attachment.
  • (The first time, the app needs permission to access the camera. Then tap Further. Then tap To allow. Tap again To allow.)
  • Tap on Camera.
  • Take a picture.
  • Adjust the photo if necessary.
  • Tap on Next one.
  • If the note consists of several pages, take a photo of each page.
  • Always tap Add an attachment and take a new photo.
  • Once all pages have been processed, continue.
  • Tap on Further. The declaration has been sent.

Download the app:

An account is required for the Univé app, plus a one-time link with DigiD. First create the account. You choose security: a PIN code or fingerprint. Then connect with DigiD. Declaring is then done like this:

  • Start the app and log in as usual.
  • Tap on Health insurance.
  • Tap on Declarations: Declaring a care bill.
  • Tap on Add care note.
  • Tap on Take new photo.
  • Take a picture.
  • If the note consists of several pages, take a photo of each page.
  • Keep tapping the plus sign and take a new photo.
  • Once all pages have been processed, continue.
  • Tap on Send declaration. The declaration has been sent.

Download the app:

  • Start the app and log in as usual.
  • Tap on File a declaration.
  • Tap on Healthcare costs in the Netherlands. (Expenses incurred abroad can be claimed by tapping Healthcare costs abroad.)
  • Tap on Take a picture.
  • Read the explanation and then tap Ok I get it.
  • Take the picture.
  • If the photo is out of focus, tap Again and take a new photo.
  • If successful, tap Use photo.
  • The photo is in the first square at the top left.
  • If the note consists of several pages, take a photo of each page.
  • Tap the plus sign.
  • Take a picture.
  • Tap on Use photo.
  • Once all pages have been processed, continue.
  • Tap on Send.
  • The claim is processed by VGZ.
