DNA, the carrier of genetic information, can be used as a storage medium. In the meantime, researchers have succeeded in archiving texts, images, films and audio documents using this technology.

Films, music, medical recordings or documents and the results of scientific experiments: huge amounts of data accumulate everywhere. In the meantime, more than 1.25 terabytes of data per capita are generated worldwide on average every year, and the trend is rapidly increasing. And there is no end in sight to this development: The international market research company IDC forecasts storage requirements of around 17.5 terabytes per capita for 2025.
