Does your iPhone get stuck? Then try these 4 solutions!

1. Restart your iPhone

It is an open door, but the first and often simplest solution is to restart your iPhone. A restart can help to solve temporary software problems that ensure that your iPhone gets stuck. There are different ways in which you can restart your iPhone. The ways below work in any case on all iPhones.

  • For iPhone 8 and older: Hold down the top or side button until the slider appears. Drag the slider to switch off your iPhone. Then turn it on again by reducing the button;
  • For iPhone X and Nieuwer: Hold the side button and one of the volume buttons pressed at the same time until the slider appears. Turn off the iPhone and then restrain the side button.

2. Close apps that run in the background

It is not common, but sometimes apps can contain errors that cause your iPhone. Closing unnecessary apps can then solve the problem.

  • For iPhone X and Nieuwer: wipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause to open the app switcher. Wipe up the apps that you do not use to close them;
  • For iPhone 8 and older: Press the home button twice to open the app switcher. Wipe the apps up to close them.

3. Check for software updates

Apple regularly releases updates to solve bugs and performance problems. Your iPhone usually installs them automatically, but it is a good idea to check every now and then whether a new version of iOS is available.

  • Go to ‘Settings> General> Software update’ to see if an update is available. If so, download and install the latest version of iOS.

Note that beta versions of iOS often cause problems. We therefore recommend that you do not install these versions.

4. Restore the factory settings

If none of the above solutions works, it can help to put your iPhone back to the factory settings. This often dissolves stubborn software problems and the stuck of your iPhone, but keep in mind that this all your data will be deleted.

Therefore always first make a backup via iCloud or iTunes before you take this step. The iPhone often does it automatically, but it is smart to always check how old this backup is. To back up your iPhone, go to: ‘Settings’. Then you tap your name and go to ‘iCloud’. Then choose ‘Backup in iCloud’.
