After many betas, the time has finally come: Apple has just released iOS 15.5 and the update is immediately available for download for all recent iPhones. A new version of iPadOS is also available.
Download iOS 15.5: this is how you install the new update
Apple has released brand new updates for the iPhone and iPad tonight. iOS 15.5 and iPadOS 15.5 are now available for download. The new software unfortunately offers few exciting new features, but does contain several bug fixes and improvements for stability. We therefore recommend that you install the latest version of iOS 15 on your smartphone and/or tablet as soon as possible. Follow the steps below for this:
- Make sure your iPhone battery is at least 50 percent full or hang it on the charger;
- Go to the Settings app and tap “General”;
- Choose ‘Software update’ in this menu and let your iPhone (or iPad) search for the latest updateâ€
- Found it? Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the update.
Does iOS 15.5 not immediately appear on the screen? Then you unfortunately have to wait. Just after the release of a new update, many people want to download the software at the same time. This creates digital queues. Please try again in an hour.
In the meantime, consider backing up your iPhone. In most cases, downloading iOS 15.5 will go without a hitch, but you never know. If something does go wrong, at least you won’t lose any important data.
Minor changes, waiting for iOS 16
Compared to iOS 15.4, which introduced many new features, iOS 15.5 is a minor interim update. Apple is making some modest changes to the Wallet app and Apple Cash. In addition, Apple Podcasts now allows you to save only a limited number of episodes and delete older ones.
Also, Universal Controls in iPadOS 15.5 is no longer in beta. This feature already appeared in iPadOS 15.4 and macOS Monterey 12.3. It lets you control both your Mac and iPad with a single mouse, trackpad, and keyboard.
iOS 15.5 may be the last update before iOS 16 is revealed. Apple is likely to present this major new version on June 6 at the WWDC developer conference. The official release is expected to be in September. We have already listed our expectations for iOS 16.
