DS outlines Citroën DS of the future

Prelude or one-off finger exercise?

DS outlines Citroën DS of the future

DS surprises friend and foe with a special sketch this Wednesday morning. On it we see a modern interpretation of the Citroën DS, in honor of the flying DS from the classic French film Fantômas se Déchaîne. What does that mean?

Many iconic cars have already returned in retro form, but the Citroën DS is an exception. Of course, the DS brand would like all their cars to be seen as heritage of the Citroën DS, but that is slightly different from a real retro DS. Now the French are sketching for the first time a contemporary reincarnation of the Citroën DS. That is special in itself and there are also wings on the car.

According to DS, it is a tribute to the DS from the film Fantômas se Déchaîne from 1965. As of today, an exhibition can be seen in the Musée National de l’Automobile in Mulhouse with all the cars from that film and the flying DS was surely the most iconic of them. Geoffrey Rossillon, who is part of the DS design team, has therefore put this modern interpretation of the flying DS on paper.

DS doesn’t explain much about the sketch, but interest has been aroused. Unlike the original flying DS, this one simply has wheels and perhaps that is already a hint that more can be expected from it. Striking: it seems to be a coupé-like car, while the DS was of course a sedan. Now the big question is whether we will see more of this, or whether it will remain a one-off finger exercise. Who knows, maybe around the 70th birthday of the DS (in 2025) DS will really conjure up an electric reincarnation of the DS inspired by this sketch, but then we are really speculating out loud.
