Use the volume mixer to adjust the sounds coming from the computer. For example, turn off or soften the sounds of programs so that you can enjoy music without beeps and beeps.
Control sound of programs
On the right side of the Taskbar you will find the volume icon . Click this and you can drag the volume of the speakers up or down. But when you enjoy music, for example, you probably don’t want computer notifications coming out of the computer speaker as loudly. At such times, the volume mixer comes in handy. This is because you control the volume per part.
- Right click on the volume icon > Open Volume Mixer.
- The volume mixer contains multiple sliders for system and program sounds:
- Windows 10: Under ‘Applications’ it says ‘System Sounds’. For example, a system sound is a notification of an incoming email. To the right of the ‘System Sounds’ are several programs that include sound. If there are many programs open, there will be a scroll bar at the bottom of the volume mixer. Click on the bar and move it to the right to view the other programs as well.
- Windows 11: Under ‘Apps’ you will find ‘System Sounds’. For example, a system sound is a notification of an incoming email. There are also several apps that include sound.
- Adjust the volume level of system and program sounds as you see fit. To do this, click on the blue slider and hold down the mouse button while turning the volume up or down.
- Close the volume mixer with a click on the cross at the top right.
