Electric Rolls-Royce is coming sooner than you think

Rolls Royce Vision Next 100

Electric driving, if it is up to Rolls-Royce we will wait a little longer. Still, the brand will probably come sooner than you think with a fully electric car.

Until now, Rolls-Royce has always reacted somewhat reluctantly to fully electric cars. The brand has of course said something about the arrival of an electric model, but it would be presented “this decade” when all elements of that car meet “the requirements that Rolls-Royce sets for it on a technical and aesthetic level”. The latter may sound a bit more intense than what it actually means, but Rolls-Royce has never sounded enthusiastic about the EV. Rolls-Royce sends out records detailing what it has been up to electrically in the past, announcing that tomorrow it will present the ‘new chapter’ in the brand’s electrical history.

That probably indicates that Rolls-Royce will present an all-electric model tomorrow, or at least shed light on a clearer vision of its first modern electric car. What should we expect from that? In theory it is not inconceivable that we will encounter some of the technology of the upcoming BMW i7, the electric version of the new 7-series yet to be unveiled, in the EV of Rolls-Royce. In 2011, Rolls-Royce already showed a fully electric variant of the then current Phantom with the 102 EX, which, however, never went into production. More recently, Rolls-Royce showed the 103 EX, a very futuristic electric-powered study model that was launched in 2016 and from which Rolls’ first EV may derive design elements.

Long story short: exactly what Rolls-Royce will show tomorrow is still shrouded in thick mist for a while.
