Volkswagen’s ID family will soon be expanded with the ID5, an electric SUV marketed as a sportier alternative to the ID4. It is that electric ‘coupĂ©-SUV’ that has now reappeared in a camouflage suit.
Volkswagen recently introduced the ID6 to the world, the longer and more spacious seven-seater brother of the ID4. The ID6 was presented as ID6 Crozz and ID6 X in China and will not come to Europe in those two capacities, although it cannot be ruled out that Volkswagen will eventually bring the electric seven-seater to Europe. The ID5 is a second sister model to the ID4, a coupé SUV that may be launched in our part of the world immediately after its introduction. This fresh set of spy photos shows the electric ID5 from all angles.
You should roughly see the ID5 as what, for example, the GLE Coupé from Mercedes-Benz to the GLE. Basically the same car, but with a more sloping roofline than the original. The wrapped test sample in these photos has, just like the test model caught at the end of last year, a special sticker on its nose. The stickers seem to suggest that an electric BMW or perhaps an electric Kia is going around here, although the car betrays with almost all other design elements that it comes from Volkswagen.
Count on the arrival of powertrains that we already know from the ID4, although it is quite possible that the 170 hp basic version will pass the nose of the ID5. Volkswagen will soon be pulling the curtain off the ID4 GTX, a more powerful and sporty ID4 with probably a 306 hp drivetrain. The GTX label, in fact the GTI label for Volkswagen’s electric models, is of course also making its way to the electric ID5.
