Good news for those who do get excited about the Volvo C40 Recharge, but the 408 hp and at least almost 58 mille Recharge Twin thought the Recharge Twin was too much of a good thing in various respects. The C40 is now also available with a single 231 hp electric motor. The arrival of this new engine version provides the C40 Recharge with a more than €10,000 lower starting price.
Until now, Volvo supplied the electric C40 Recharge only as a 408 hp Recharge Twin, a variant that was also only available as an introduction version Intro Edition and had a starting price of €57,995. The Intro Edition is being replaced by the conventional Plus and Ultimate versions, but bigger news is the arrival of the much more accessible C40 Recharge with single electric motor.
The starting price of the Volvo C40 Recharge is immediately €46,495. For that amount, Volvo puts you in the hands of the C40 Recharge with a single 231 hp electric motor. The starting price applies to the Core version. The 231 hp C40 Recharge is also available as Plus and Ultimate. The Plus costs €49,995, the Ultimate costs €53,995. The 408 hp C40 Recharge Twin remains on the price list, although the Intro Edition clears the field to make way for the Plus and Ultimate. The Volvo C40 Twin Recharge costs €56,495 as a Plus and €60,495 as an Ultimate.
Specifications
Unlike the 408 hp Recharge Twin, the new C40 Recharge with a single 231 hp electric motor is not a four-wheel drive version, but is front-wheel drive. That is not the only difference, the battery pack is also a size smaller. Where the Recharge Twin has a 78 kWh (net 75 kWh) battery, the bottom of the single-engine C40 Recharge contains a 69 kWh (67 kWh net) battery pack. Thanks to its more modest muscle power, the C40 Recharge barely squeezes fewer kilometers of range than the much stronger C40 Recharge Twin from its larger package. Depending on the chosen version, the C40 Recharge has a range of 431 to 434 kilometers. The 408 hp C40 Recharge Twin squeezes 437 to 438 kilometers of range from its 78 kWh battery.
As far as range is concerned, you hardly have to make concessions with the C40 Recharge. Due to its lower power, it is of course less rapid than its 408 hp Twin brother. The 231 hp C40 Recharge sprints to 100 km/h in 7.4 seconds and has a top speed of 160 km/h. The C40 Recharge Twin shoots to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds and only stops at 180 km/h.
