It will soon be possible to take out a subscription on Facebook and Instagram so that you no longer see advertisements. That’s how much it costs!
Meta introduces subscriptions
Are you done with all the ads on Instagram and Facebook? Then we have good news, because from this month you will have the option to hide advertisements in these apps. Unfortunately, this is not free, to disable the advertisements you have to take out a paid subscription with Facebook or Instagram. For a certain monthly amount, you will no longer see advertising on your timeline.

By introducing these new subscriptions, Meta is trying to comply with European guidelines in the field of privacy. According to European privacy legislation, Meta, the parent company behind Facebook and Instagram, may only collect personal information from users with permission. Do you not give permission? Then taking out a subscription to Facebook and Instagram is the alternative.
That’s how much a subscription to Facebook and Instagram costs
Meta introduces the same prices for subscriptions to Instagram and Facebook: for both platforms you pay no less than 9.99 euros per month. You must take out the subscription via the website, because you pay a little more via the app. If you take out the subscription via the Facebook or Instagram app, you pay 12.99 euros monthly. This has to do with commissions that Apple implements in the App Store.
Are you planning to take out a subscription? Then it is smarter to do this via the Facebook or Instagram website. It is not yet clear whether there will also be a combined subscription, so that you no longer see advertising on both Instagram and Facebook. Now it seems that you have to take out a separate subscription for both platforms, which means you will spend almost 20 euros per month if you want to use Facebook and Instagram ad-free.
Subscription coming in November
Meta announced earlier this week that the subscriptions will be launched in November. It is not yet known from what date you can take out a subscription, but you probably won’t have to wait much longer. Because the subscriptions are a response to European privacy legislation, they will only be available in countries that are members of the European Union. To take out a subscription you must be eighteen years or older.

Don’t want to pay for a subscription to Facebook or Instagram? Then you must give permission for Meta to collect your personal data. The company has already indicated that the free version of Facebook and Instagram will remain available. In practice, the platform is of course not free, because you basically pay with your personal data. But from this month onwards it will be your own choice.
