Are you looking for an alternative to Zoom or Microsoft Teams? Apple has made it possible for the users of an Android phone or a Windows computer to participate in FaceTime video calls. This is how FaceTime works on Android.
Create link
When Steve Jobs introduced FaceTime in 2010, he promised to make it an open industry standard. Not so… FaceTime remained the Apple fan’s favorite, yet exclusive, video calling method for over a decade. But since iOS 15, iPadOS 15 and the recent Apple computer operating system Monterey, you can also make FaceTime calls with other participants on Windows and Android.
That doesn’t mean the FaceTime app is available to them too. However, they can participate in a conversation that was started from one of the Apple devices mentioned. To do this, you open on, for example, the iPhone the FaceTime app. Instead of the green button New FaceTime to use, tap the button Create linkâ€
share link
In the next screen, name the FaceTime link and click OK†That way you can create different links for people you want to invite, but who don’t have FaceTime.
If you tap the green I icon after the name of that link, you can share this link via email, messenger, Facebook or any other means. You can also just copy and paste the link wherever you want.
Participate
At this point, the conversation has not started yet. Tap the info button, as the link must remain active for the conversation. You can also add the link to a calendar event so you can schedule the FaceTime call for someone’s birthday, for example.
The person receiving the link simply has to open the link in their internet browser. Then he enters his name to join the conversation and clicks the green button Continue†So, the owner of the Android phone or Windows PC does not need an Apple ID.
The FaceTime link hangs on the side of the iPhone until you remove it. To remove it, use the info button next to the name of the link again, click on the red button Remove link and confirm your choice.
