Filling in medical data on Android smartphone

Fill in your medical details on the smartphone; that could save your life. Because emergency services then have access to important information, such as your blood group.

Users of an Android smartphone can enter various medical information on their device. Anyone who has your phone in their hands can then view this data. Even when the device is locked. In this way, care providers also have access to the data. Useful if, for example, the owner of the phone is unconscious.

The medical data includes the medical condition, allergies, medication and blood type. Here’s how it works on an Android phone running Android 8.0 or higher:

  • Swipe up or down on the screen for an overview of all apps.
  • Tap the app Contacts.
  • Tap your name at the top.
  • Scroll down. On Android 9.0, tap Add your medical information so emergency services can see it even when your phone is locked. For Android 8.0, tap Enter your medical information for emergency use. This data can be accessed while your phone is locked.
  • Tap on OK.
  • Tap the category you want to fill, for example Enter blood group.
  • Type the information you want.
  • Ready to fill in? Tap on Save.

Anyone who has your phone in hand can request the medical data. Even if the device is locked and secured with a PIN code, fingerprint or facial recognition.

View the medical data on an Android device like this:

  • Try to unlock the phone.
  • If the phone is secured, the unlock screen will open. Tap at the bottom emergency call.
  • At the bottom left, tap a red icon of a doll with i.

The medical data is visible.
