Security institute Euro NCAP has rammed a Volkswagen ID3 into the wall several times. The result? A whole bunch of smashed ID3s, but also a five-star report for Volkswagen.
Euro NCAP has subjected the electric Volkswagen ID3 to a series of crash tests. The result is a score of 5 stars, the maximum number a car can achieve. According to the safety institute, the good results of the tests with the Volkswagen ID3 are very promising, as the model is the first of a wide range of electric models from the Volkswagen Group.
The Volkswagen ID3, tested as the Pro version positioned in the middle of the ID3 range, scores 87 percent of the points for ‘adult occupant safety’. Safety for children in the back is rated at 89 percent. In terms of pedestrian safety, the ID3 takes a respectable 79 percent. According to Euro NCAP, the emergency braking system’s pedestrian detection works ‘marginally’, but responds to cyclists “in most cases”. When it comes to passive and active safety systems, the electric hatchback has nothing to be ashamed of. In this area, the Volkswagen ID3 achieves 88 percent of the maximum possible number of points.
