After the temporary closure of factories in, among others, the European Union (EU), Ford has decided to stop work outside European borders.
Ford has decided to temporarily suspend work in India, Thailand, Vietnam and South Africa. The brand will shut down the production lines for engines and the assembly sites indefinitely. Head of International Markets Department Mark Ovenden announced this on Monday. The hiatus will last several weeks, Ford said.
In India, the interruption has already started on Saturday. In the EU, Turkey and the UK, work had already halted as a result of the global corona outbreak, as had been the case in the United States. Ford still has locations in countries such as China, Mexico, Russia and Taiwan. It is unclear where work is still going on. Ford previously shut down its entire European production and closed production sites in the United States.
