Good news for those who have or aspire to a Ford Mustang Mach-E with the largest battery pack: Ford will use a larger part of the battery, giving the electric Mustang a greater range.
For the time being, it is specifically about Mustangs with the larger battery pack, which is advertised on the Ford site as ‘Extra range’. Regardless of the version – RWD, AWD or GT – these cars come with a battery of 99 kWh gross and 88 kWh net. However, during the presentation of the lightning-fast Mustang Mach-E GT, Ford announced that the net capacity will increase to 91 kWh due to a software update in the foreseeable future. This of course has positive consequences for the range.
Ford has only planned the update for the spring of 2022 and has not yet communicated concrete range figures. If we assume the promised increase of 3.4 percent, then the Mach-E with the longest range – the RWD – should be able to reach 631 km instead of 610 km.
The margin between gross capacity and net capacity is partly there to increase the life of the battery. According to Ford, however, it is now clear that such a large margin is simply not necessary, so the Mach-E is provided with some extra range with the existing hardware.
