Genesis G80 now also electric

Genesis presents its first production-ready electric model to the world in Shanghai. This is the Electrified G80, an electric version of the G80 with a 370 hp powertrain and an interesting range on paper.

Genesis presented the new G80 last year around this time, the successor to the model that previously went through life as Hyundai Genesis. The slickly designed liftback in the segment of the BMW 5-series and Mercedes-Benz E-class now gets a fully electric variant. The Electrified G80 called electric Genesis, which will probably simply be called G80e, can only be recognized as an EV from the outside by its closed grille. The charging point is also hidden in that grille. Also interesting: Genesis gives the electric G80 a roof covered with solar cells. Every bit of free electricity is of course a nice bonus.

The electric Genesis G80 has a battery pack in its bottom that, like that of the Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5, can handle 400v and 800v charging structures. This makes fast charging with high payloads possible. Genesis is still keeping the exact capacity of the battery pack under its hood. However, the brand does promise a range of more than 500 kilometers according to the NEDC cycle. According to the South Korean measurement method, the Electrified G80 must be able to travel up to 427 kilometers on a charge. Via a V2L connection (Vehicle to Load), the electric G80 can charge devices such as laptops, but also other cars with a maximum charging power of 3.6 kW. Genesis’ first electric model has two 186 hp electric motors that together provide a system power of 380 hp and 700 Nm. The four- or rear-wheel drive G80 is capable of sprinting to 60 mph (97 km / h) in 4.9 counts. The electric G80 will have its own paint colors, including Matira Blue and Dark Green Two-Tone.

Genesis is soon expanding the EV range. For example, it will come with a crossover of the format Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5. It is still unclear when Genesis will enter the European market. However, it is certain that the brand will come to Europe at some point.
