Genesis G90 – Into the Wild

Genesis has existed as a separate brand since 2015, the luxury brother of Kia and Hyundai. The very first car of that brand was this Genesis G90, which thus represents the genesis of Genesis.

We will quickly finish describing the history of Genesis, because the brand has not been around for eight years. It was founded in November 2015, although there were already Hyundai models with the type name ‘Genesis’ as a harbinger of the brand before that.

The first car where ‘Genesis’ was really the brand name, so without Hyundai logos at all, was the G90. The car you see here is one of that very first generation. The diplomat registration makes it difficult to say exactly which year the car comes from, but it is at least one from the period 2016-2018. In that year, the G90 received a very substantial facelift, in which it was fitted with the current Genesis style.

Judging by that CD license plate and the flagpole holders on the front screen, this G90 is still in active service, which might make it all the more interesting. The nameplate states ‘5.0’, which means that we are dealing with an extra thick copy here, with a 5.0-liter V8 instead of the 3.3 V6 from the Kia Stinger, among others. To be clear: a G90 is considerably larger than such a Stinger and really a Mercedes S-class car.

One question we unfortunately don’t know the answer to is where this particular G90 came from. The absence of side markers in the headlights excludes that this is an American copy, but in South Korea this pre-facelift variant was still called EQ900. Our guess is that it is a car from one of the so-called CIS countries, ie former Soviet states. Russia (also here) is the biggest suspect, because the G90 was also conducted there. Anyway, special to encounter in our country, and we thank Edwin Peek for the photos!
