Just a little while longer…
Can’t you wait for the South Korean premium brand Genesis to arrive in the Netherlands? Then we have bad news: it won’t happen in 2024 in any case.
Genesis, Hyundai’s luxury brand, has been active in Germany, Switzerland and the United Kingdom since 2021. The brand is taking it easy in those countries and explicitly says that it first wants to get current affairs in order before thinking about European expansion. Last year we spoke to representatives of the brand in Germany and it turned out that little concrete could be said about the arrival of Genesis in the Netherlands. “The year 2024 is tentatively mentioned, but that is by no means certain,” we wrote at the time.
This caution turned out to be for good reason, because a representative of Genesis now tells AutoWeek that Genesis will not be coming to the Netherlands for the time being. “The plans for European expansion are still there, but will not start in 2024. Next year we will focus on expanding the number of customer touchpoints in Germany and the UK and start working with dealers. The expansion to other countries will be postponed to 2025 and will continue in the following years.” This European expansion will take place in ‘waves’, i.e. series from multiple countries at once. The PR man continues: “The Netherlands is part of that expansion, but it has not yet been decided which ‘wave’ the country falls into. This also makes it impossible to say in which year Genesis will come to the Netherlands, but it is certainly not 2024.”
We’ll just wait patiently again. As a sweetener, we have two test videos for you, because we already drove the electric Genesis Electrified G80 and the non-electric G70 Shooting Brake.
