Special electric convertible

Genesis delivered a surprising visual treat back in November with the X Convertible. A study model immediately recognizable as Genesis with a special combination: an electric powertrain and a hardtop. It does not stop with a one-off finger exercise, because the Genesis X Convertible is actually going into production.
Officially, Genesis has not yet commented on production plans for the X Convertible, but if we are to believe a former CEO of the American Genesis dealer organization, it will really come. At Automotive News let the man, who is still at the helm of an American Genesis dealer himself, know that none other than Luc Donckerwolke has shared the happy news. Genesis’s chief designer in Belgium prepared the dealers for the arrival of the X Convertible during an annual dealer meeting.
It is not yet known when the production version of the Genesis X Convertible can be expected. It will probably take a while, because nothing else is known about it yet. The study model already looked reasonably ready for production and, as mentioned, is quite a unique case with its electric powertrain and hardtop. There are glass panels in the retractable roof that, even with the roof up, should give the idea that you are in an open car. Whether that will make it to the production stage remains to be seen.
It is still unclear which powertrain Genesis supplies in the car. With the Electrified G80, Genesis already has a relatively high EV in the market, the X Convertible may borrow its technology from it. It seems more logical that Genesis develops the car on the new for all segments dedicatedeM platform. On that basis, new EVs from the Hyundai Motor Group should appear from 2025.
