The Geneva Motor Show was unexpectedly canceled this year due to the corona virus. Next year it is hoped that the auto show will take place again, albeit in a modified form.
In the run-up to this year’s Geneva Motor Show, infections in Europe took off rapidly. In the end, just before the show, it was decided that it was not wise to continue. They want to try again in March 2021. This is evident from documents inspected by Automotive News. Good news, because in June it was announced that the show of 2021 will not take place.
Anyone who expects a show as usual, we have to disappoint. Of course, the current state of affairs regarding corona does not yet provide sufficient guidance to return to the pre-crisis situation, so Geneva is looking at other options. The biggest change is that the focus is on a fair that lasts only three days and only involves the media. A considerably stripped down variant, also in terms of the layout of the exhibition floor.
According to the intercepted plans, there will be a central presentation point. Car manufacturers can book time on this and, apart from a small media delegation, there will also be mainly ‘digital audiences’. The brands can choose from different packages to still have their own stands. That differs from a package for one car with ten media guests to space for four cars with a hundred media guests. The organization would also compensate brands for the accommodation costs of invited media, to make it attractive to come to Geneva despite the smaller scale of the fair.
It is reported that these plans have not yet been responded to by manufacturers, although the question is to what extent it has already been presented to them. You bet we’ll hear more about this soon.
