That is not all, because with the help of Google Gemini, content from emails is summarized and answers are automatically prepared. To do that, Google uses the content from your emails, chats and meetings. Don’t you want that? Then you have to adjust the Gmail settings on your iPhone.
Turn off smart functions
Do you use Gmail on your iPhone? In that case, smart functions are automatically switched on. Google uses Google Gemini as standard to make the mail service smarter and more advanced. The company does need permission for this, so that the content of your e-mails, chats and videos can be used to personalize these smart functions. Would you rather not have that? Then switch off the following function:
- Open ‘gmail’ on your iPhone;
- Press the three stripes next to the search bar;
- Scroll down and tap ‘Settings’;
- Choose ‘Data Privacy’;
- Turn off the switch behind ‘smart functions’;
- Tap ‘smart functions in Google Workspace’;
- Switch off the switches behind ‘Smart functions in Google Workspace’ and ‘Smart functions in other Google products’.
Have you disabled these functions of Gmail on your iPhone (and iPad)? Then your e-mails, chats and videos are no longer used for personalizing smart functions. Please note, because you will miss the integration of Google Gemini in Gmail. In that case, smart reactions to emails are missing and emails are no longer summarized by Google Gemini. You know for sure that your content will not be used for the AI functions of Gmail.
