Whatever you think about electrification, it is nice to see that the news in this area often comes from unexpected sources. Take Maserati, which is going all out on the EV organ with the Folgore range and is not only including the obvious SUVs, but also sports cars. The beautiful (subjective, but deny it) Maserati GranTurismo was almost immediately available as an electric Folgore and even the open Maserati GranCabrio is simply available as an EV. This creates a unique device for the time being: an open top GT with a rear seat, Italian lines and a fully electric drivetrain.

That unique package is considerably cheaper in the Netherlands than a petrol-powered GranCabrio. We’ll just ignore the fact that this is mainly because the petrol model gets a lot of punishment from the tax authorities. The electric Maserati GranCabrio Folgore costs at least €208,250 in the Netherlands, compared to €292,166 for the petrol-fired GranCabrio Trofeo. In addition, you get considerably more power with the EV, 761 instead of 550 hp. Despite the higher weight, the EV is clearly faster than the conventional V6. The sprint from 0 to 100 is completed after just 2.8 seconds, the petrol version takes 3.6 seconds.

The closed GranTurismo Folgore costs €198,350, so for the convertible pleasure you will spend €9,900 extra in this case. The EV is also the cheapest variant of the coupe, although the price difference is less significant here. This is because the GranTurismo is also available as a Modena, with a less powerful V6 than in the Trofeo. This variant is currently conspicuous by its absence in the GranCabrio.
