The iOS version of Google Home is currently receiving a major update in which Gemini (AI assistant of Google) is central-you need to know this.

The new version (4.0.54) from Google Home for iOS has a more completed icon with a color gradient, just like Gemini. Although the update is already available, all new functions are already active. That will probably happen on October 1.

Ultimately there will be a new beam ‘question [naam van het huis]’appear at the top of the app. Via the icon to the left you can set the status at home or absent. Then there is the ‘plus’, with which you can add the following: device, speaker group, automation, app or service link, family member and house.

Only 3 tabs left

Google has simplified the Home app with the update to three tabs: home, activity and automation. The tiles of the devices themselves are unchanged and at the top you will find options such as cameras, lighting and WiFi. Apart from new icons in the beam at the bottom, the tabs activity and automation have the same layout.

When you ask the new function [naam van het huis]’Used, a chatbot appears. It initially works as a search function, in which tiles, promotions and automatisings appear while you type. More advanced prompts are not yet available. The complete new design will probably be launched on October 1.

There are also some remarkable things on the Google Disclaimerpage regarding the Google Home update:

  • The Gemini speech assistant is available for everyone in your house, including guests. Keep in mind that others in the house can hear the answers.
  • Family members with voice match enabled can watch videos of compatible cameras or smart doorbells.
  • With the Gemini Live function, the microphone remains active, so that you can easily ask follow-up questions without first saying ‘Hey Google’ again. The microphone is switched off after a short period of inactivity and you can always end a conversation to switch off the microphone.
