Google Pixel 8a vs iPhone 13: these are the 5 differences (ADV)

You can now also order the brand new Google Pixel 8a from Vodafone. It is a budget-friendly device and roughly comparable in price to the iPhone 13. But when do you choose the Google smartphone or an iPhone 13? These are the five differences.

Google at Vodafone

Buying a Google Pixel smartphone was quite a challenge in the past. They were not available in the Netherlands, but that has now changed. The Google Pixel 8 series is now also available from Vodafone. The latest addition is the budget-friendly Pixel 8a, which you can now pre-order. You will temporarily receive 150 euros extra trade-in value with your Pixel 8a if you hand in an old phone.

The Pixel 8a is roughly comparable in price to an iPhone 13, which has been available for a number of years. You can currently get the iPhone 13 from Vodafone for 528 euros and the brand new Google Pixel 8a costs you 408 euros. But when do you choose which device? 5 differences between Google Pixel 8a and iPhone 13

Cameras

We’ll start with the differences between the two camera sets. If you choose the new Google Pixel 8a, you get a main lens that takes photos with a maximum resolution of 64 megapixels, an ultra-wide-angle lens of 13 megapixels and a front camera with the same resolution. The iPhone 13 has the same three lenses, but they shoot 12 megapixel photos.

That sounds like a big difference, but it does not necessarily mean that the Google Pixel 8a is better at taking photos. Quality is also largely dependent on the software and how colors are processed. Both phones therefore take good photos.

A nice thing about the Pixel 8a is the editing tool. Using artificial intelligence, you can adjust your photos exactly the way you want. Remove unwanted people from your background or move objects to another place. It is also possible to put together the perfect group photo from several photos, in which everyone looks good.

Battery

Then the battery. That of the Pixel 8a has a capacity of 4500 mAh. If we look at the iPhone 13, we see that it has 3240 mAh. Here too, the significant difference between the two batteries does not say much.

How a phone handles the battery depends on many different aspects. Your own smartphone habits play a major role, but also which functions need to be powered. And how energy efficient is the chip used?

According to Apple, you can watch videos for about 19 hours with the iPhone 13, and with the Google Pixel 8a you can easily do a whole day. Charging of both devices is done via a cable, but is also possible wirelessly. It is useful that the iPhone 13 is equipped with MagSafe. Thanks to magnets, the iPhone clicks into exactly the right place on the wireless charger, so that it charges optimally.

Screen

The differences between the screens are small. They both measure 6.1 inches and can be easily operated with a single hand. The resolution of the iPhone 13 is a bit higher, but the difference is minimal. The Google Pixel 8a does support Always On, where your screen always shows what time it is in the locked position. Handy, but the function does require a little more battery power.

To colour

Of course, the iPhone 13 and Google Pixel 8a are available in different colors. If you go for the Pixel 8a, you can choose from off-white, black and blue. Prefer the iPhone 13? It is available in silver, black, blue, pink and red. Which one suits you best?

Storage size and chip

You want to have enough space for all your photos and other files on your phone. The Google Pixel 8a comes standard with 128GB or 256GB of storage. Do you need more? Then choose the iPhone 13, because in addition to 128GB and 256GB, it is also available with 512GB at an additional cost.

Furthermore, the Google Pixel 8a has 8GB of RAM, while the Apple phone has to make do with 4GB. It has a more powerful chip, so the difference will not be noticeable. Are you an avid gamer? Then choose the iPhone 13. Apple’s A15 Bionic chip can handle this best.
