Most streaming services offer an option to download series and movies to your iPhone or iPad. You can then watch them without an internet connection. Here’s how it works!
Download movies from streaming services
If you use Netflix, HBO Max, SkyShowTime, Disney+, Amazon Prime, Apple TV+ or Videolandthen you probably also want to watch a movie or series when you are on vacation. Maybe even when you are on your way to your vacation destination. The disadvantage is that it costs you quite a lot of data, unless you have good wifi everywhere.
Depending on where you are going, the latter is never completely reliable. It often happens that there is wifi in a hotel, for example, but that it practically does not work because so many people are using it at the same time. If you want to play it safe, it is a good idea to download some films and series.
Overview
Do you want to download movies and series from NPO Plus or NLZIETthen we have to disappoint you. These streaming services do not offer that option. Fortunately, there are enough streaming services where it is possible.
Netflix
Anyone with a Netflix subscription can download movies and series, but there are differences per subscription. The number of devices you can download movies and series on varies.
This way you can use a Basic subscription (8.99 euros) download on one device. With the Standard subscription (13.99 euros) are two devices and with the Premium subscription (18.99 euros) four devices. So keep this in mind. Downloading works like this:
- Open Netflix on your iPhone or iPad and go to the movie you want to download;
- Below the ‘Play Movie’ button there is a ‘Download’ button;
- Tap this to start downloading and wait for the file to arrive.
To see what you’ve downloaded, tap ‘My Netflix’ and look under ‘Downloads’. It’s a good idea to check this well before you leave, to make sure the movies and series have been downloaded to your device.
HBO Max
HBO Max has been available in the Netherlands for over two years now. The service offers a variety of series such as Game of Thrones and House of the Dragonbut also relatively new films such as Dune Part Two. A subscription to HBO Max costs 7.99 euros per month.
Just like Netflix, HBO Max lets you download everything you want to watch offline to your iPhone or iPad. That way, you can keep yourself entertained on the bus or plane, and keep the kids entertained on a long car ride south. Here’s how to download:
- Open HBO Max on your iPhone or iPad and navigate to the movie you want to download;
- Next to the movie you will see a download button (line with a downward arrow);
- Tap this to start downloading and wait for the file to arrive.
Tap the down arrow at the bottom and you will see everything you have downloaded.
SkyShowTime
At SkyShowTime it depends on your subscription whether you can download series and films. There is a standard subscription with advertising (5.99 euros) and a standard plus subscription (8.99 euros). Only with the latter is it possible to watch films offline and then a maximum of 30 titles. Among them you will find the film Oppenheimer and the series Yellowstone.
Downloading on SkyShowTime works as follows:
- Open SkyShowtime on your iPhone or iPad and go to the movie you want to download;
- Below each movie and episode you will see a downward arrow with a line;
- Tap this to start the download and wait for the file to be saved.
The down arrow you see at the bottom of the screen takes you to your downloads.
Apple TV+
Apple TV+ should of course not be missing from this overview. A subscription to Apple TV+ costs 9.99 euros per month and then you watch popular series such as Ted Lasso and Dark Matter. You will also find recent films, including Napoleon, Argylle and Killers of the Flower Moon.
Downloading shows on Apple TV+ is also very easy. Follow the steps below to download episodes on your iPhone or iPad.
- Open Apple TV+ on your iPhone or iPad and go to the series you want to download;
- In each episode you will see a cloud with an arrow pointing down;
- Tap this to start the download and wait for the file to be saved.
Tap ‘Library’ at the bottom to see what you’ve downloaded.
Disney+
The streaming service Disney+ has a lot of content from Disney, but also from Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and National Geographic. A subscription costs 10.99 euros per month. If you pay for a whole year at once, it will cost you 109.90 euros. That converts to 9.16 euros per month.
It is also possible to download series and films on Disney+ and this works in a similar way to the other streaming services:
- Open Disney+ on your iPhone or iPad and go to the series you want to download;
- There is a down arrow next to each episode;
- Tap this to start the download and wait for the file to be saved.
Tap ‘Downloads’ at the bottom to see what you’ve downloaded.
Amazon Prime
Amazon Prime is with 4.99 euros per month the cheapest streaming service from this list. You will mainly find some older classics such as Lord of the Rings and Interstellar. But also if you have programs like A man visits the doctor If you like what you see, you’re in the right place.
Downloading movies and series is just as easy on Amazon Prime:
- Open Prime on your iPhone or iPad and navigate to the movie you want to download;
- Below the ‘Play Movie’ button there is a ‘Download’ button;
- Tap this to start the download and wait for the file to be saved.
You can find everything you’ve downloaded by tapping the ‘Downloads’ button at the bottom.
Videoland
The streaming service Videoland is especially for anyone who likes programs such as Maxima, The Bachelor and Ex on the BeachThere is a basic subscription of 4.99 eurosbut you get advertising with that and you can’t watch anything offline with that subscription.
Therefore, choose the plus subscription (9.99 euros). You will not have any advertising, you can download programs and you can watch on two screens at the same time. If you want four screens at the same time, you choose the premium subscription (11.99 euros). You can download it as follows:
- Open Videoland on your iPhone or iPad and go to the film you want to download;
- There is a downward arrow next to each film;
- Tap this to start the download and wait for the file to be saved.
Tap ‘Downloads’ at the bottom to watch the episodes offline.
Download series and movies from streaming services
As you can see, downloading movies and series works pretty much the same for all streaming services. With a little preparation, you can easily take enough content with you for your entire vacation, without it costing you anything extra.
