Here’s how to watch YouTube videos offline


Are you going on a trip soon and don’t expect to have an active internet connection or just don’t want to tax your data bundle watching videos on YouTube? We’ll cover how to watch YouTube videos offline by downloading them.

To download videos, you need a YouTube Premium subscription. You can try this subscription free of charge for a month and after that you pay 15.99 euros per month. Full access to YouTube Music is included.

With a subscription, you can download videos, as well as playlists, quite easily on all your mobile devices. It is not possible to save videos on your computer or laptop to watch them offline: this is only possible with videos that you have uploaded yourself.

Download movies

So start up the YouTube or YouTube Music app on your tablet or smartphone and make sure you are logged in to your Premium account. Choose any video and you will find the To download-option between the Parts– and clipbutton. Then you have the choice to download the video in high quality (720p) or in normal quality (360p).

You can see by the check that the video has been downloaded completely. If your internet connection is interrupted during the download, YouTube will automatically resume the download as soon as you reconnect.

In principle, the videos will always remain available offline, provided you connect to the internet in your own country or region once every thirty days. If you don’t, the offline videos will be deleted and you’ll have to download them again. Playlists are also updated automatically: if new videos appear in a relevant playlist, the videos are automatically downloaded to your device.

To download YouTube videos, you need a paid subscription.

You can find your downloaded videos and playlists by going to the main page of the YouTube app and tapping Library. below Downloads you will then see all your offline videos. If you want to remove videos, you can do that by pressing the three vertical dots next to the video in the list and choosing Remove from downloads.

In the settings of the YouTube app you can: Wallpaper and downloads make some adjustments to the way videos are downloaded. For example, you can set videos to be downloaded only when you’re connected to a wifi network.

After all, you can have the option Smart download Turn it on if you want YouTube to automatically download content for you based on what you’ve watched before.
