How to never miss a phone call on iPhone again?

Enable the right options in iOS settings to make sure you never miss an incoming call again.

An iPhone placed momentarily on the corner of a table and it’s the tragedy: you have just missed an important call. To avoid this, you can change some settings in place by default to get additional alerts, in addition to the simple sound alert. iOS indeed embeds several options which, when in place, will allow you to multiply the alerts to reduce the risks of missing a phone call. You can, for example, combine the vibrator of your device with a light alert emitted thanks to the flash integrated into the iPhone, or even choose to abandon the display of incoming calls, by default in the form of a banner, in favor of a full-screen call window. Here’s how.

1. Activate the vibrator

If you are one of the last diehards to use only the classic iPhone ringtone, it is probably time to review your judgment and consider activating vibrate mode. So even at low volumes, the sound of your iPhone vibrating on the table in the next room will be enough to alert you to an incoming call.

To make sure your vibrator works both when your iPhone is in ring mode and in silent mode, open iOS Settings and go to the Sounds & Vibrate menu. Check that the On ringtone and In silent mode options are active.

2. Use flash alerts

The trick is far from recent, but it remains relatively little used. To help people with hearing problems, Apple introduced an accessibility option several years ago that allows the iPhone camera flash to flash when you receive a call or message.

To take advantage of this, open iOS Settings and go to the Accessibility menu. In the section dedicated to hearing, enter Audio/Visual, scroll through all the options then, at the bottom of the page, activate the LED flash for alerts function, then Flash on mute.

So when your iPhone is in silent mode, vibrate is off, or you’ve turned your device over with the screen facing down, for example, your iPhone’s camera flash will flash to let you know the arrival of a notification and, if applicable, an incoming call.

3. Prefer full-screen alerts

Since iOS 14, Apple has chosen to modernize the call window interface that appears on the iPhone screen. Formerly full screen, they are now displayed by default in the form of a banner, considered to be much less intrusive.

If this banner does not convince you, you can completely return to the old full-screen display. To do this, access the iOS Settings, then, in the Phone menu, enter the Incoming calls menu. Finally, select Full Screen and close your iPhone’s Settings.

Now all incoming calls to your device will display full screen rather than just a banner.

4. Use an Apple Watch

If you are lucky enough to have an Apple Watch and it is connected to your iPhone, you should in principle receive call alerts directly on your connected watch. And if however you do not have time to reach your iPhone located in another room, you can always take yourself for Michael Knight by taking the call directly from your Watch.

5. Receive your calls on your Mac

If you use a Mac daily, it’s connected to the same local network and signed in to iCloud with the same Apple account, you should basically be able to make and receive calls on your Mac using the Cellular Calls feature on iPhone.

To be sure to take advantage of it, open the iOS Settings, enter Phone then the Calls menu on other devices, activate the appropriate option, and choose to Allow calls on your Mac.

On your Mac, open the FaceTime app, click the FaceTime menu, then go to App Preferences.

In the Settings tab, check the Calls from iPhone option.

When a call arrives on your iPhone, a notification will automatically appear on your Mac. You can then take the call from your Mac as you usually do from your mobile device.
