According to a German professor, the corona crisis may cause dealers to come up with bizarre discounts in a short time. Some models may become half cheaper.
That’s what car expert Professor Ferdinand Dudenhöffer says to the German Focus Online. In March, the German car market slumped by 38 percent. An even greater decline is expected in the coming months. As a result, many dealers remain with an immense stock. In Germany, dealers are expected to store an x number of copies of each model and then sell them. Completely different compared to the Netherlands, where cars are ordered purely to customers’ orders.
To get rid of this stock, Dudenhöffer expects dealers to come up with massive discounts. “The car market in Germany is experiencing very sensitive slumps this year. You can only soften the slumps with intelligent offers. ” The German thinks that especially SUVs go away with big discounts. Due to a fall in demand for the raised cars, that surplus is already relatively large.
Dudenhöffer refers to the German medium to the summer of 2017 when an environmental bonus allowed more than 30 percent discount on a new car. “Now discounts of up to 50 percent are not inconceivable.” In the Netherlands, the discounts are expected to rise less sharply, but chances are that here too dealers are still trying to attract customers to their showrooms with various promotions.
