iDeal vs Wero
iDEAL has been the standard for online payments in the Netherlands for years. Nevertheless, iDEAL will make way for it in the coming years Weroa new European alternative. This brings a number of clear advantages. We list the most important improvements compared to iDEAL for you.
Wero works throughout Europe
Perhaps the biggest disadvantage of iDEAL is that it only works within the Netherlands. That is a thing of the past at Wero, because this new payment system has been developed as a European standard. You will soon be able to pay online with it at foreign web shops and you can use it to transfer money to people in other EU countries.
More than just paying online
iDEAL is mainly intended for online purchases, Wero is set up as an all-in-one payment system. It is therefore more of a digital wallet than a separate payment method. You will soon be able to:
- Pay online.
- Transfer money to friends and family.
- Pay in physical stores.
- Send payment requests.
- Manage subscriptions and recurring payments.
Faster and more flexible
With iDEAL you have to choose your bank again for every payment and confirm the payment. Wero makes that process faster and smoother. This means you have fewer steps during checkout, you will receive payment confirmations faster and you can pay directly from your banking environment or app.
The same safety
You don’t have to compromise on safety. Wero uses the same strict European payment rules as iDEAL, including strong authentication. The difference is mainly in the technology behind the scenes, which makes the system more future-proof.
Ready for new features
iDEAL has hardly changed in principle for years, Wero is designed for continued growth. Features that may be added later include:
- Pay with one click;
- Digital receipts;
- Purchase protection;
- Better integration with apps and web shops.
The end of iDEAL
