I’m Never Going Back to Android (And Here’s Why)

More than two years ago I switched to an iPhone for the first time. And this is why I will never go back to an Android device.

I’m never going back to an Android

For years I only used Android devices. Including a Samsung Galaxy S, an HTC One M7, a Google Nexus 5 and a Google Pixel 3A XL. Then I switched to an iPhone 12 and I am now the happy owner of an iPhone 15 Plus.

Although I have always been quite pleased with these Android devices, I will never go back to an Android. I have several reasons for that. Overall, I think everything works a little better and smoother on an iPhone.

Perhaps most importantly, it almost never happens that something doesn’t work. That smooth experience and reliability are the important reasons for me to never go back to an Android. You can read the other reasons below.

Design and build quality is always good

To start with, I really like the design of the iPhone. It is of course very personal whether you agree with this or not. But if so, you probably like all the new iPhones. There is therefore less to choose from than with Android, but personally I don’t think that is a disadvantage (in fact it is an advantage). The offer is therefore very clear.

In addition, the build quality is always good. That is also something that varies much more with Android devices. Android can be cheaper, but it remains to be seen what the build quality is like. With Apple you always know in advance that everything will be fine, but that is always reflected in the price.

iOS interface is intuitive

I never liked Android with a Samsung or HTC shell around it. That’s why I switched to a Nexus at the time and later to a Pixel. I liked the pure Android operating system a lot better. But iOS goes one step further. It took some getting used to when I switched, but iOS is now one of the main reasons for me not to go back to Android. I find it clearer, more intuitive and easier to use.

Long software support

Another advantage is that Apple has offered software support longer than most Android manufacturers. This is nice if you want to use your iPhone for a long time, but also if you want to sell your iPhone again after two years, for example. A device that continues to receive updates for a long time is simply worth more than a device that is almost no longer supported.

Convenient integration of Apple devices

Apple devices really work together seamlessly. On the one hand, that is a smart move by Apple, on the other hand, it is simply very useful. It’s also something that becomes more and more useful the more Apple devices you have. When you first switch to an iPhone, you may not have any other devices yet. But the more you have, the more convenient it is that they all work so well together.

integration

In addition to my iPhone 15 Plus, I now have a MacBook Air, Apple TV and an Apple Watch SE 2022. I plan to purchase the AirPods Pro 2 soon.

Excellent security and privacy

Apple has always prioritized security and privacy. Strict security standards are applied and data is encrypted for maximum protection against malware and hackers. Apple does that better than Android. There are even people who think Apple’s security is overdone, but more often than not, those are people who have forgotten their passwords. As long as you don’t forget your password, you have nothing to worry about.

Unprecedentedly long battery life

Since I got my iPhone 15 Plus, I also have the best battery life ever. iPhones don’t necessarily have the most powerful batteries compared to Androids, but they do manage to use them more efficiently. This usually results in longer battery life. My iPhone 12 was already a significant improvement in battery life over the Pixel 3A XL. The iPhone 15 Plus takes another big step forward in that regard.

Camera with 48 megapixels

On paper, iPhone cameras are certainly not always the best. Several Androids score better on that point. Yet in practice I don’t feel like I’m missing anything important. The camera of the iPhone 12 was certainly not bad, although I saw that it could be improved a bit. The 48-megapixel camera of the iPhone 15 Plus is absolutely great as far as I’m concerned. There are Androids that offer more options, but for me this is absolutely sufficient.

Does an iPhone also have disadvantages?

There are a few potential disadvantages, but I actually don’t experience most of them as such. In the past, it was a disadvantage that you had relatively few options on the iPhone to adjust the Lock screen and the home screen to your own preferences. But since the release of iOS 16, this is no longer an issue.

Furthermore, I expected that I would miss the extra storage space of a memory card, but that has not happened yet. I think Apple could add the option. However, if you purchase an iPhone with sufficient storage space, you will not easily run into problems.

Actually, I think the only disadvantage is that you have to pay to make backups in iCloud. The standard amount is quickly too little, so you have no choice but to pay for extra storage space every month. Making backups at another location is not possible.

iCloud storage

I now pay 2.99 euros per month for 200 GB of storage. If you want more, you immediately get 2 TB, which costs you 9.99 euros per month. It seems that 200 GB is enough for me, so 2.99 euros per month is still manageable. Although I think it’s a disadvantage, it doesn’t change the fact that I’ll never go back to Android.

You may also find the relatively high price of iPhones a disadvantage. Androids are often cheaper, but not always. For example, the price of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is almost the same as that of the iPhone 15 Pro Max. If you do not want to pay the top price for an iPhone, you can opt for a slightly older model (after all, you are guaranteed long-term software support) or for a refurbished model.

Never Go Back to Android: Questions and Answers

These are the main reasons for me never going back to Android. Finally, some answers to questions we often encounter about switching from Android to iPhone:

Is an iPhone really better than an Android?

That is of course very subjective. An iPhone offers many advantages, including a seamless ecosystem, quality and durability, ease of use, security, and powerful performance.

Why are iPhones so expensive?

The higher price of iPhones is mainly due to the high-quality materials used, advanced technology, excellent performance and extended warranty that Apple offers.

Are iPhones really more secure than Android devices?

In general, iPhones are known for their robust security measures and privacy protections, which is why they are often considered more secure than some Android devices.

Why switch from Android to iPhone?

In addition to the benefits in this article, most apps use the App Store as a launch platform. They often only appear in the Google Play Store much later.
